Gacek, the tuxedo cat of Szczecin, Poland, became a local legend between 2020 and 2023. Known as the “King of Kaszubska Street,” this chunky feline boasted a five-star rating on Google Maps and drew tourists from around the globe. His fame skyrocketed after a German tourist’s viral video, which hit over 4.5 million views.
Gacek, often spotted lounging in his custom wooden booth, even earned the nickname “Kim Kardashian of the cat world” thanks to a plethora of Gacek-themed souvenirs. His fame was so big that there was an attempted kidnapping, which failed when Gacek cleverly hid under a car.
In April 2023, Gacek took a break from his street stardom for some weight loss and health care, tipping the scales at 10 kg. But he slimmed down and found a new home by September. Gacek even started a fundraiser, “Gacek buys food for the homeless,” surpassing its goal and helping other animals. Szczecin is planning to honor him with a monument and help 500 stray cats, costing around 180,000 Złoty.
