How to make a lost cat poster that gets noticed

  • Use one clear photo. Pick a recent picture where the face, colour and markings are easy to see. A cropped close-up works better than a wide shot.
  • Keep the words short. People read posters from a distance or while walking past. The headline, photo, area and phone number should be readable in a few seconds.
  • Say where and when. A street or landmark and a day help neighbours remember whether they saw your cat.
  • Describe what makes your cat different. A collar, a bent ear, a white patch. If your cat is shy, say so, so people know not to chase it.
  • Leave out your home address. A phone number is enough. Only offer a reward if you are happy to be contacted about it.

Where to put your posters

  • Around the place your cat was last seen, then outward street by street.
  • Shop windows, vet clinics, pet stores, community boards and building lobbies, with permission.
  • At eye level, and in a plastic sleeve if rain is likely.
  • Share the PDF in local social media groups and neighbourhood chats too.

Frequently asked questions

Is the lost cat poster generator free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark beyond a small credit line at the bottom of the poster.

Do you keep my photo or phone number?

No. The poster is built when you click download and is not saved. The photo is held in a temporary folder so the PDF can be made, and it is deleted automatically within a few hours.

Which paper sizes can I print?

A4, used in most countries, and US Letter, used in the United States and Canada. Pick one before you download.

What does the Pet ID number do?

If you made a Pet ID card for your cat, its number adds a QR code to the poster. Scanning it opens your cat's public card, which shows the photo and basic details, never your contact information.
